Caroline Garcia reacts to "neighbor" Karim Benzema winning Ballon d'Or

Carolina Garcia, who was born in the same place as Karim Benzema, reacted on social media after her "neighbor" won the Ballon d'Or, an award that recognizes the best footballer in the past year. "So deserved! BRAVO @Benzema, neighbor of @VilleDeBron," wrote Garcia on Twitter.

What did Karim Benzema say after the award

Benzema accomplished a childhood dream by winning the 2022 Ballon d'Or.

“This was my dream,” Benzema said after receiving the award. "This prize in front of me, makes me really proud. When I was young, I never gave up, it was a childhood dream. I had the motivation, I had two role models in my life in Zidane and Ronaldo.

I had always had this dream that everything is possible. There was a period where I wasn't in the French team but I never stopped working, I'm really proud of my journey here and it was not easy. "It was also a difficult time for my family, to be here, my first time, I'm happy and I'm going to keep going.

I want to thank all my teammates at Real Madrid and the national team, my coach, the Real Madrid president. I always had the support from Jean-Michel Aulas (Lyon president). The Ballon d'Or is an individual prize but it is still a collective one for everyone who's helped me win it." Last year, Lionel Messi was the winner of Ballon d'Or.

After finishing ahead of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the Ballon d'Or voting and winning his seventh such prize, Lionel Messi, who led Argentina to their first Copa America title since 1993, was denied by German Boris Becker, a six-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one, who claimed that Robert Lewandowski should have won the prize.Boris Becker expressed his opinion in an Instagram comment. “Robert should have won the award!” wrote Becker.
