Anisimova played three tournaments in Australia
Anisimova kicked off her 2023 season at the Adelaide International 1, where she was beaten by Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. The following week, Anisimova made the Adelaide International 2 main draw as a lucky loser.
This time, Anisimova was able to win her first-round match before losing to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the round-of-16. At the Australian Open, Anisimova didn't make it far as she suffered a straight-set defeat to Marta Kostyuk in the first round.
Now, Anisimova has two first-round and two round-of-16 showings at the Australian Open. Anisimova made the Australian Open round-of-16 in 2019, before losing in the first round the following year. In 2022, Anisimova made the Australian Open round-of-16.
At the 2022 Australian Open, Anisimova stunned Naomi Osaka in what was their first meeting. "The first time I played the Australian Open, I reached the fourth round, so it was very special for me. I think the most complicated part about tennis is not knowing whether you'll make it or not.
Just the unknown of whether you'll become successful. To play Naomi for the first time, it's unreal, honestly. My favorite quality of mine that I always try to work on is that I will always put up a fight no matter what. I love playing in front of Australian fans. It's just so fun out here. I absolutely love it," Anisimova recalled before this year's Australian Open.
