Angelique Kerber says she is "patiently waiting" the birth of her first child. Kerber, 35, announced her pregnancy last August. "Patiently waiting," Kerber captioned her Instagram post.
Before announcing her pregnancy, Kerber skipped the WTA 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Just when everyone started wondering why Kerber wasn't playing, she announced the happy news.
Kerber aims to return to tennis
Last month, Kerber turned 35. However, Kerber is definitely planning to return to tennis. “When you talk now to them, it’s more intense listening to what they say.
We see the moms can come back, also winning big titles. And I hope I can also be one of them, inspiration for new moms and women to come back to doing their business," Kerber told the WTA website in November. In November, Kerber also said there was not a specific date she was targeting for a return.
“I don’t know what time or which tournament because I really want to take the time. And when I come back, I want to come back 100 percent, fit again and feel good. This is the plan," Kerber explained. In recent years, there have been several cases where WTA players returned to tennis after pregnancy.
Kerber spoke with some of the players, who advised her to take her time before returning to action. “Take your time, enjoy the moment now. And then, they said I will feel when the time is there to come back. It’s better to take one month later than one month earlier," Kerber revealed.
In 2022, Kerber appeared in 10 tournaments. Kerber managed to win one title in 2022 as she made it all the way on the clay courts of Strasbourg. Kerber last played at Wimbledon, where she made the third round before losing to Elise Mertens. It remains to be seen if we will see Kerber back on the court at some point of the 2023 season.
