In recent years, there have been several cases where a WTA player returned to tennis after giving birth.
Kerber, a former world No 1, is also set to go that path. In November, Kerber spoke to the WTA Tour and revealed how she spoke with some players who returned to tennis after giving birth. “When you talk now to them, it’s more intense listening to what they say.
We see the moms can come back, also winning big titles. And I hope I can also be one of them, inspiration for new moms and women to come back to doing their business," Kerber told the WTA website in November. Also in November, Kerber noted she didn't have a targeted date for her comeback.
“I don’t know what time or which tournament because I really want to take the time. And when I come back, I want to come back 100 percent, fit again and feel good. This is the plan," Kerber explained. Last year, Kerber appeared in a total of 10 tournaments.
Kerber's best result of the 2022 season came in Strasbourg, where she won the title just before the French Open. Kerber last played at Wimbledon, where she made the third round before losing to Elise Mertens. After losing to Mertens at Wimbledon, Kerber unexpectedly pulled out of WTA 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Just when everyone started wondering what was happening with Kerber, she announced her pregnancy. It remains to be seen when will Kerber return to action.
