Bianca Andreescu says she would like to have a friendly conversation with Emma Raducanu because she feels they could actually help each other out. Andreescu, 22, and 20-year-old Raducanu have had similar paths at the start of their respective career.
Andreescu, who became a Grand Slam champion at the 2019 US Open, hasn't won any titles since. On the other side, Raducanu also hasn't had any wins since making it all the way at the 2021 US Open. “No. But I would honestly really, really like to speak to her because of that, because of our similarities.
I mean, she’s also Romanian. She was born in Toronto, which is super, super crazy. Definitely I would love to speak to her, for sure. Maybe we can help each other out," Andreescu said, per Tennis365.
Andreescu, Raducanu were born in the same hospital
In the Miami Open first round, Andreescu defeated Raducanu in three sets.
During the match commentary, a commentator stated that both Andreescu and Raducanu were born in the same hospital in Canada. “That’s weird. That is weird. No, no one’s ever said that. I was born in Mississauga, hospital in Mississauga.
That’s crazy if that’s the case. That hospital was two US Open champs. That’s pretty big (laughter)," Andreescu said. After beating Raducanu, Andreescu was full of praise for the 20-year-old Briton. "You never know what to expect -- I just came in here wanting to play my best with what I had today, and I think I did that.
Emma played amazing -- she's an incredible player and I have a lot of respect for her. I didn't let my negative emotions get the best of me. I stayed positive, I was very energetic and I never gave up," Andreescu said after beating Raducanu. Andreescu now owns a 2-0 head-to-head in matches against Raducanu.
