Cori Gauff, Leylah Fernandez share message to Emma Raducanu after Briton's surgery

Cori Gauff and Leylah Fernandez wished Emma Raducanu a speedy recovery after the Briton announced multiple surgeries. On Thursday, Raducanu posted a handwritten note on her Instagram, revealing she decided to have surgeries on both hands, as well as surgery on her ankle.

As a result, Raducanu is set to be out for an extended period and miss the French Open and Wimbledon. "Get well soon Emma," Gauff wrote in the comment section of Raducanu's post. Fernandez, who was beaten by Raducanu in the 2021 US Open final, also wished the 20-year-old a quick recovery.

"Get well soon!" Fernandez wrote.

Raducanu was hampered by a wrist injury for quite some time and she also injured her ankle in her first tournament of the season in Auckland.

Raducanu tried to manage the injuries and play through it but it evidently wasn't working. In the end, Raducanu realized the best thing to do would be to surgically address her injuries and take some time off to recover. "It is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a recurring injury on a bone of both hands.

I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try [to] heal it.

Unfortunately, it’s not enough. I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues. I’m disappointed to share that I will be out for the next few months and while I am at it will have another minor procedure that is due on my ankle.

It pains me that I will miss the summer events and I tried to downplay the issues so I thank all my fans who continued to support me when you did not know the facts. Looking forward to seeing you all back out there," Raducanu announced.
