Cori Gauff was sad over not having a chance to speak following the Madrid Open doubles final, while her partner Jessica Pegula had a cryptic reaction to a Madrid situation that is drawing ire. On Sunday, top-seeded Gauff and Pegula failed to win the Madrid doubles title after being handed a 6-1 6-4 loss by Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The tradition on the ATP and WTA Tour is to have participants of the singles and doubles finals address the crowd afterward. After the Madrid women's doubles final was over, neither of the two teams had a chance to speak.

"Wasn’t given the chance to speak after the final today:( But thank you to the fans for supporting us and women’s tennis this week! Thanks @JLPegula for always keeping it fun on the court and hitting unreal clutch shots hahahaha Lastly, big congratulations Vika and Bia.

Also, thanks to my team and Jess’s team of course! Also for the ball kids, tournament staff, and everyone else who works hard behind the scenes. Twitter format doesn’t allow me to say everything I would’ve said during the speech if we had one.

But just wanted to say I‘m thankful," Gauff tweeted.

Pegula delivered a cryptic reaction to Gauff's tweet, Azarenka retweeted

Pegula had a very cryptic reaction to the controversial Madrid situation and Azarenka retweeted the tweet.

Azarenka also responded to Gauff's tweet, dropping a heart emoji to the 19-year-old. Meanwhile, Greg Rusedski was stunned during his commentary on Amazon Prime.

"I've never seen that in a finals in doubles where neither team has spoken. That is the most bizarre situation. I can't remember this happening," Rusedski said during his match commentary, per Express. Later, Rusedski tweeted: "I have never seen this before after the women's doubles final in Madrid.

No interviewers from any players or post match interviews. What happened????"
