Elina Svitolina has climbed 316 spots on this week's updated WTA rankings list following her first victory as a mom. Svitolina, who gave birth last October and was out for 13 months before returning to action in April, entered Strasbourg ranked at No 508 in the world.
On Saturday, Svitolina saw off Anna Blinkova 6-2 6-3 in the final of a WTA 250 event in Strasbourg. The WTA 250 tournaments award 280 ranking points to the champion as Svitolina improved to No 192 in the world following her Strasbourg triumph.
Svitolina, a former world No 3, was ranked outside the top-1000 when she returned to tennis in April.
Svitolina wins her first WTA title as a mom
Svitolina, 28, is now a 17-time WTA champion. But for Svitolina, this victory is probably one of the most special ones of her career.
Moments after her Strasbourg victory, Ukrainian tennis star Svitolina remembered her country. On the court, Svitolina announced her entire Strasbourg prize money would be donated to the kids of Ukraine. "I would like to share this energy with Ukraine, with my homeland.
All my prize money from this tournament is going to go to the kids of Ukraine, [which is] much needed in this tough moment. I would like to thank France for doing an unbelievable job, welcoming Ukrainians, doing everything possible for them to feel like it's their second home.
Thank you so much for everything that you do for us, and together, we're going to see the light and end this war," Svitolina said after her win. When Svitolina returned to tennis, she said there were still goals she wanted to achieve.
By winning a title just two months after returning, Svitolina showed that she still has the game. After a Strasbourg triumph, Svitolina kicked off her French Open campaign with a 6-2 6-2 win over Martina Trevisan.
