Elina Svitolina details pros, cons of being married to fellow tennis pro Gael Monfils

Elina Svitolina has named the pros and cons of being married to fellow tennis star Gael Monfils. In 2021 July, Ukrainian tennis star Svitolina and 2016 US Open semifinalist Monfils tied the knot. In October, Svitolina and Monfils welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Skai.

"What is good? Let's start what is bad. What is bad is maybe we speak quite a lot about tennis. You know, tennis is like 95% of our life. Sometimes you just maybe want to rest. But to be fair, you know, a person like Gael, he's quite easy, quite a really easygoing person.

Does also like million things around tennis. So that's why it keeps our life fun. So I guess this is good as well that he's very entertaining in a way and very supportive, of course. Understands what I'm going through. He understands how tough it can be.

You know, we both really support each other because we go through similar problems, similar tough times," Svitolina said, via Sportskeeda.

Svitolina loved Monfils' French Open first-round win

Monfils, a former world No 6, edged out Sebastian Baez in a wild French Open first-round match with a 3-6 6-3 7-5 1-6 7-5 score.

In the fifth set, Baez had a 4-0 lead and had a break point to go up by three breaks. But then, Monfils created a stunning comeback. For Monfils, it was his first main-level win since becoming a father. Svitolina, who had a match scheduled for the next day, stayed up late to follow her husband on TV.

"I watched him but not live, I was streaming in my room, so if someone heard me, it's me cheering for Gael. I don't know actually what he's doing here now. I think he should be resting but I'm really thankful for him to come to support me especially in this tough match.

Looking forward for his next round. Its his turn now to go and play in the second round, so ya looking forward to the match," Svitolina said.
