Fabio Fognini tried to clarify the situation on the alleged lack of anti-doping control. The Italian tennis player wanted to directly clarify, through an Instagram story, the case that broke out on 21 June 2023, that concerned him.
The former Monte Carlo Rolex Masters champion found himself in no time at the center of a controversy, which saw him as the protagonist of an episode that did not correspond to the truth. The news circulated on the web that said that the Italian would have skipped the anti-doping control because at that moment he was in Istanbul to follow the UEFA Champions League final between his favorite soccer club, Inter, against the eventual champion, Manchester City.
A fake news that immediately made noise, but which the tennis player wanted to deny, reporting the truth. Fabio indeed shared an article by the Italian website SportMediaset in which he explained what happened, adding, denying all the rumors about him: "This is the correct version of the facts.
Congratulations to those who have worked with imagination"
Fabio Fognini in the storm for missing a doping test, but he denies
The article in question defined the details of the incident, clarifying that there is no link with the UEFA Champions League final.
Instead, it would have been a technical problem that prevented the tennis player from notifying WADA of the change of delivery precisely on the days when he was in Rome for the Internazionali. The player's entourage has made it known that the missed check dates back to May 9, a month before the final in Istanbul (a match he watched live).
The night before he had tried to change domicile, given that he was reported to Arma di Taggia (in Italy), but the WADA portal was blocked. Although Fognini then provided some screenshots that served as evidence, the Anti-Doping officials rejected his defense, continuing the notification of lack of control.
An injustice, which Fabio did not accept willingly. The controversy therefore seems to have deflated, at least for now, around the former Italian number one, who already yesterday commented on the incident, again via Instagram stories, with an eloquent inscription: "Unfair!" precisely because despite having presented all the documentation, he had received the recall all the same
