Belinda Bencic was left annoyed with one anti-doping procedure after clinching a Montreal second-round win over Alycia Parks. On Wednesday, Bencic defeated Parks 6-3 5-7 6-4. When Bencic appeared in the press room, she claimed that for an hour and a half she wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom or eat anything.
Also, Bencic revealed that she had to "beg" the officials to allow her to shower and have an ice bath. Bencic was left annoyed because her post-match recovery was hampered by the entire situation.
Bencic annoyed with the anti-doping testing in Montreal
"Well, I just spent one and a half hours in anti-doping not being able to pee after a three-hour match, of course.
So I don't know what they expect, and I don't know why I have anti-doping when I won. So I just did that. I didn't even eat yet. I'm here now. I had a quick ice bath. I had to beg them to have an ice bath and to have a shower actually.
So it's new rules. So, yeah, that's how I recover, I guess. Not ideal," Bencic said, via Sportskeeda. Meanwhile, Bencic was able to seal a three-set win over rising American star Parks. In the first set, Bencic broke Parks in the fifth and ninth games to clinch the opener.
After losing the first set, Parks earned her first break of the match in the third game of the second set but Bencic broke back in the sixth game. However, blowing an early second-set break didn't impact Parks, who broke Bencic again in the 11th game and served out for the second set in the following game.
In the third set, Parks opened an early 3-1 lead and also led 4-2. But Bencic kept her focus as the Swiss claimed back-to-back breaks in the eighth and 10th games to win four games in a row and complete a three-set win.
