Chris Evert joins Martina Navratilova, talking about transgender athletes in the world of sport. The American tennis legend opened up about transgender tennis player Renee Richards, whom she confronted when she was in her 20s and she was in her 40s.
Evert faced Renee Richards six times during his career and ended up winning each time. A years ago, Chris said about her transgender opponent: ""Here are some facts…1) when I was #1 in the world, I struggled to beat Renee.
She was 43…2) Renee has said if she had been 25, she would've wiped everyone off the court 3) Martina is no hater and Renee is awesome. I competed against Renee Richards when she was 43 and was not in shape, as she admitted, and (struggled to beat her) - and I was ranked No.

Martina Navratilova on the issue
Martina Navratilova has expressed a severe judgment on a very sensitive issue in the world of sport: "It is certainly unfair for women who have to compete against people who, biologically, are still men.
I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form you prefer, but I wouldn't be happy to compete against you." The victory of Alicia Rowley, a born male tennis player, in one of the tournaments for women over 55 organized by the United States Tennis Association, sparked a harsh reaction from Navratilova.
The former champion has railed against the presence of trans athletes at certain events. The 18-time singles Grand Slam champion chimed in on an argument that originated on X and expressed her point of view without mincing words: "Hey, Usta: women's tennis is not for failed male athletes, whatever the age.
Would this be allowed at the US Open this month? Only with ID? I don't think so… It is patriarchy for biological men to insist on the right to enter spaces created for women. How hard is that to understand? It is patriarchy for biological men to insist on the right to compete in the women's category in sports."
