Iga Swiatek has matched Caroline Wozniacki's record for the most WTA 1000 finals before turning 23, via OptaAce. Swiatek, who turned 22 in May, beat Coco Gauff 6-2 6-3 in the semifinal of a WTA 1000 event in Beijing to reach her eighth final at this level.

On Sunday, Swiatek will be playing against Liudmila Samsonova in the Beijing final. In her first seven WTA 1000 finals, Swiatek went 5-2. Since Swiatek won't celebrate her next birthday until late 2023 May, she will likely reach more WTA 1000 finals before turning 23 and beat Wozniacki's record.

Swiatek gets back on the right track in Beijing

After a very disappointing US Open - in which Swiatek suffered a shock round-of-16 loss and also lost her world No 1 ranking - she bounced back in Beijing by putting up a very strong and deep run.

After ending Gauff's streak of 16 consecutive wins, Swiatek said she feels she is "more loosened up." "For sure at this tournament I feel like I'm serving better. I had matches during this season where I felt like I was serving great, and I wish I had that kind of form in terms of my serve every match.

It was up and down. For sure on this tournament, it's working. I don't know exactly why. I'm trying to serve the best way possible in every tournament. I feel like, overall, I'm more loosened up. I feel more free. Everything is a little bit easier than on past tournaments," Swiatek said after reaching the Beijing final.

Meanwhile, Swiatek has won four titles this year but neither of those four titles came at the WTA 1000 level. Against Samsonova, Swiatek will undoubtedly be the favorite to end on the winning side and clinch her career-sixth WTA 1000 title. It remains to be seen if Swiatek can beat Samsonova and lift her fifth title of the year on Sunday in Beijing.
