Italian Billie Jean King Cup team captain Tathiana Garbin announced on Instagram that she has been hospitalized due to complications related to the second tumor surgery she had two weeks ago. After Italy's loss to Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup final in Seville, 46-year-old Garbin shared that she was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer.

In mid-November, Garbin also revealed that she had one tumor surgery and that she was set for another. "Hi everyone, I am sorry to have to inform you that following complications related to the surgery, I have been back again hospitalized.

Despite everything, I try to maintain morale high and I continue to place my trust in the structure that is taking care of me in the best possible way," Garbin wrote on her Instagram Story on Monday.

After guiding Italy to a deep 2023 Billie Jean King Cup run, former world No 22 Garbin shared some very unfortunate news. “Today, I would like to share with all of you an important part of my life journey.

It is with serenity and confidence that I announce that in October I underwent surgery to treat a rare tumor. However, I would like to inform you that I will have to undergo a second surgery as per the doctors’ planned treatment plan.

Thanks to my rapid recovery, I am optimistic about my ability to return to the field," Garbin announced after Italy's loss in the Billie Jean King Cup final. In her message at the time, Garbin also expressed her gratitude to the Italian Tennis Federation for their continuous support. "A heartfelt thank you also goes to my Federation, which with extraordinary solidarity and sensitivity has supported me and granted me full support.

The (schedule) in Seville was very important for me, which I absolutely did not want to miss despite being very close to the operation: the Federation displayed their full confidence in me," Garbin said.
