Aryna Sabalenka has touched in Brisbane as the Belarusian tennis star hilariously joked she "travels light" after being spotted full of suitcases and luggage.

Sabalenka, ranked at No. 2 in the world, is set to start her 2024 season at the Brisbane International, which is set to feature a star-studded player field. In Brisbane, the 25-year-old Belarusian will be making her debut.

On Thursday, Sabalenka landed in Brisbane. At the airport, Sabalenka was spotted full of luggage and heard telling the cameras: "Travel light (laughs)."

Sabalenka picks Brisbane to start her 2024 season

After not staging their WTA event for a couple of years, the Brisbane International is returning at the start of 2024. In the 2024 Brisbane edition, there will be several superstar names as Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka are all set to play there.

"I’m excited about starting my 2024 Australian season in Brisbane. Australia holds a special place in my heart after winning my first Grand Slam there. I can’t wait to make my debut at the Brisbane International and play in front of the Queensland tennis fans," Sabalenka said in a statement.

In Brisbane, fans could potentially see a rematch of the 2023 Australian Open final between Sabalenka and Rybakina. Last week, Sabalenka defeated Rybakina at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi. After beating Rybakina, Sabalenka also defeated Iga Swiatek and afterward was asked about beating her two biggest rivals ahead of 2024.

“We had a lot of great matches against each other. Honestly, we didn’t play the full match, but played just a set. Of course, it’s really good to have these kind of matches before going into the next season. I think we played really great tennis, great level and it’s really great to have these matches ahead of the next season," Sabalenka told Gulf News.

It remains to be seen how well can Sabalenka do in her Brisbane debut.
