Daniil Medvedev hilariously called out certain WTA coaches when explaining that his daughter Alisa definitely has his characteristics and traits.

In 2022 October, 28-year-old Medvedev and his wife Daria welcomed their first child, a baby girl Alisa. Shortly after becoming a father for the first time, Medvedev described himself as "a cold person in life" before revealing that he felt some "special emotions" when his daughter was born and that it showed him he could also be sensitive.

On Thursday, Medvedev defeated Holger Rune 7-5 6-4 in the Indian Wells quarterfinal. After receiving a couple of questions related to his tense moment with Rune and a cold post-match shake of hands, the Russian received another interesting question - a reporter asked him about his wife revealing to a magazine that his daughter is "a strong personality" just like him. Also, the reporter told Medvedev his wife said that makes parenting Alisa a bit difficult at times and asked the 28-year-old if his daughter was indeed similar to him.

Answering the question, Medvedev provided a lengthy and honest response but also a bit funny one. First, the Russian started by explaining that he is someone who needs a valid reason to do something and then to also see instant results in order to keep doing something.

When making that point, Medvedev revealed that he "hates when some WTA coaches in the players' lounge" tell him he should go to the net more frequently and volley more. Then, Medvedev returned to his daughter, saying that Alisa "starts screaming" when someone tries to help her and make her do some things differently.

Medvedev concluded his message by saying that he is "a proud father" because his daughter Alisa is indeed like him.

How Medvedev exactly told about his daughter being a strong character like him

"Well, I think it definitely, like all the babies, have something from both of us. But if we talk about me, that sometimes is my problem on the court. So for coaches it's not that easy to coach me, because for me to, like, I trust what they say, but for me to fully, like. commit and believe in it, I kind of need the results straightaway," Medvedev said.

"Let's say my coach tells me on the clay to spin more. I'm going to spin for 10 minutes, and I'm like, See, I don't put one ball in the court. I'm going to start doubting and maybe play flat.

"Then, yeah, but when I commit myself to something and believe something, that's when I go for it. No matter the result.

"So the same, yeah, I'm trying, I read some books, I'm trying, you know, to have a different -- I'm trying to be a good father in my own approach, and I want that she learns herself many things, and I'm there to help if she needs help.

"The thing I hate the most in life is when someone, and it happens like even in the player, the lounges sometimes, some coach from women, from WTA, would come to me and say, 'You have to go to the net more.' I'm like, 'What the hell?' That's the thing I hate the most in life. I really want to be there for my children when they need help but I don't want to be invasive.

"What happens, I talk to my daughter, I'm like, If you need help I'm there. She's like me, she doesn't want any help. If you try to help her she starts screaming, and says, Go away, I need to do it myself. So that's definitely my character. Yeah, I'm proud of it. (Laughter.)"

Alisa made Medvedev's life happier

Since becoming a father, 2021 US Open champion Medvedev has several times spoken about the happiness and joy that Alisa has brought in his life. During last year's Wimbledon, Medvedev said he was "a really happy person with only good emotions" and described parenthood as "amazing."

At the time, the 28-year-old Russian also admitted that the moment he became a father, he just then fully understood what people meant by telling him he would understand the levels of happiness and joy of being a father only after he welcomes his first child.

Shortly after becoming a father, Medvedev went on one of the best runs of his career. In 2023 February, Medvedev's run of five consecutive finals started. During that run, Medvedev won Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and the Miami Masters, while he ended as runner-up only at the Indian Wells Masters. At one point during his run, Medvedev was on a 19-match winning streak.

Since becoming a father, Medvedev has also made two Grand Slam finals. Unfortunately, Medvedev lost both of those Slam finals - he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the 2023 US Open final and Jannik Sinner in this year's Australian Open final, respectively.
