Emma Raducanu says she has learned that "life is full of twists and turns" and that the key is knowing how to react in the best way possible when challenges and adversity come.

As an 18-year-old teenager playing in her second Grand Slam tournament, Raducanu wrote tennis history by becoming the first-ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam at the 2021 US Open. Following her historic US Open, the feeling was that Raducanu was at the top of the world as praises were coming from all sides and soon she became one of the most popular tennis players and one of the players with the best sponsorship deals.

But since then, Raducanu has become one of the most criticized and scrutinized tennis players due to her lack of success since the 2021 US Open. Also, the 21-year-old Briton has experienced some major injury troubles as she was just 20 when she had to undergo three different surgeries last year.

Raducanu on learning that 'life is never a straight line'

"I’ve learned that life is full of twists and turns, but it’s how you navigate those moments that define you. As an athlete, that is never truer than when you are injured and facing criticism. It can feel like a constant uphill battle, but you can view it as either an obstacle or an opportunity to grow," Raducanu said in an ad for HSBC.

While the last few years haven't been easy for Raducanu, she remains hopeful and optimistic that something good will eventually come her way.

“If the last few years have taught me anything, it’s that life is never a straight line, and you never know what opportunities are around the next corner. I’m excited to see what the future holds, whether that’s next week, next year or next decade,” Raducanu added.

Meanwhile, Raducanu is currently preparing for the grass season after deciding to skip the French Open qualifying.
