David Goffin admitted he was "happy" with the move the French Open organizers made after his shocking claims about drunk fan behavior but also noted that his goal wasn't to make it about himself and draw the Fattention of the people.

Following a five-set win over France's Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in his opening match at Roland Garros, Belgian tennis player Goffin claimed certain "hooligans" from the stands acted toward him in a "totally disrespectful" way and that one fan even spat his chewing gum at him. Naturally, the story was quickly picked up by the media and received lots of attention.

And on Thursday - two days after the incident occurred - French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo gathered the media to make a special announcement, where she revealed that alcohol would not be served in the stands during matches anymore.

"Alcohol was until now authorized in the stands. Now it's over," French Open tournament director Mauresmo told the media on Thursday.

"We are happy people are very enthusiastic about watching tennis and being part of the matches, showing and feeling emotions, but there are definitely steps which shouldn't go further. A few things have needed to be put in place."

On Thursday, Goffin returned to the court for his second-round match versus Alexander Zverev. And although former world No. 7 Goffin competed pretty well against Zverev, the current world No. 4 escaped with a 7-6 (4) 6-2 6-2 win.

In his post-match press conference, Goffin was told about the decision that was made while he was on the court playing against Zverev.

“First of all, I didn't know. So happy that you told me the story, but I don't know what to say. I don't know if it was the reason why after my match two days ago. I just said what I was thinking," Goffin said in his post-match press conference when told about the decision made by the tournament.

"I didn't want to make a long story about that. It was just what I was feeling after my match, but then I didn't know if it was because of the alcohol or something... I didn't know that they were drinking alcohol during the match in the stands or in the stadium. So I didn't know.

"No, maybe something great. I have no idea. I don't know what to say. No, what I can say is just that today was just a great, great atmosphere. It was a little bit easier mentally, but I didn't win the match."

Goffin fought well against Zverev and later earned praise from the German tennis star

Through the opening 11 games of the match, there was not much separating the two as not a single break point was seen. Then with Zverev leading 6-5 and Goffin serving to stay in the first set, the German had a set point on Goffin's serve but the Belgian saved it force a tie-break.

After Goffin started the tie-break by winning the opening two points, Zverev responded by winning the next four points to go 4-2 up. Leading 6-3 in the tie-break, Zverev missed out on his second set point but then converted his third set point to win a very tight opener.

After Zverev managed to win a tight first set via a tie-break, he also managed to claim the first break of the match in the first game of the second set. In the seventh game, Zverev broke Goffin again for a 5-2 lead before serving out for a two-set lead in the following game.

Early in the third set, Goffin led 2-1 through the opening three games but without a break. Then, Zverev went on to win the next five games and complete his win in a very impressive way.

After the match, Zverev called Goffin "an incredible player."

"When it is heavy, when it is slow, it is not ideal for me. I am someone who likes to be extremely aggressive, so when it is like that, it is not ideal," Zverev said after the match.

"I felt the ball well today. Maybe a few mistakes but I knew David is an incredible player and someone who was difficult for me in the past. It showed in the first set, but I am happy I ran away with it."

Now, Zverev owns a 4-2 head-to-head versus Goffin.

Meanwhile, Goffin will now probably take a few days to rest and recover and then kick off his preparation for the grass season and Wimbledon.
