"We're still friends so it's okay!"

Holger Rune, Danish player on good terms with the Serbian champion Novak Djokovic, talked about the match between Denmark and Serbia at UEFA Euro 2024 and said that they exchanged messages during the European soccer match.

Djokovic moved from Wimbledon to Munich a few evenings ago to attend the decisive match for his Serbia against Denmark at the UEFA Euro Germany 2024. A match which ultimately sealed Denmark's qualification for the round of 16 as second place in the group and the elimination of Serbia which finished in last place in a group which saw England finish first.

Rune - who beat Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday in an exhibition match in London in preparation for Wimbledon - answered some on-court questions in the post-match interview. Asked about the European soccer championships and the match between his country, Denmark, and Serbia, the current world number 15 declared that he had spoken at length about this topic the day before with Novak Djokovic, who then went to Monaco to watch the match live.

Asked if he had sent him a message about the match, Rune replied: "Obviously I sent him a message. We're still friends so that's fine! He went to Munich. We even thought about going together. I don't know how to describe the match but at least we managed to qualify for the round of 16 and so I'm happy."
