Tennis - Former US Open champion and World No. 3 Gabriela Sabatini, one of the most glamourous and popular players of the WTA Tour in the 1908s and early 1990s, has been honoured with a statue in Buenos Aires for her achievements in the sport.
The event was attended by Sabatini and the former head of the Buenos Aires government and former president of Boca Juniors, Mauricio Macri. The statue is located on the Paseo de la Gloria, where statues of other Argentine sporting legends like Guillermo Vilas and Emanuel Ginobili already exist.
Several others will be unveiled in the cming months including Luciana Aymar, Lionel Messi, Pascual Perez, Hugo Porta, Diego Maradona and Juan Manuel Fangio. Sabatini won her lone Grand Slam at the 1990 US Open and also reached the finals at Wimbledon in 1991, winning 27 career titles.
