Teliana Pereira Wins Second WTA Singles Tour Title

Tennis - Brazil's Teliana Pereira has won her home event - the WTA Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis - beating German Annika Beck in the final. Pereira won the last five games of the match after both players split the first two sets to win her second WTA title.

Her first singles title came at the Claro Open in Bogota. In the process, Pereira also became just the second Brazilian to win a WTA title in her home nation in the Open Era. She said she was delighted with the title, especially as she came into the tournament carrying a knee injury and was unsure if she would be able to play at all.

Pereira said she is happy to be known for her fighting qualities as she knows she des not have the best forehand or backhand in the game, but is proud of her ability to fight on the court. Beck and fellow German Laura Siegemund upset second seeds María Irigoyen and Paula Kania, 6-3, 7-6(1) to win the doubles title - the first for Beck and the second for Siegemund.
