Canadian Steven Diez is the new National Champion of Spain!

In the final of 102nd Spanish National Championships in tennis, world number 384th Steven Diez overcame teenager Jaume Munar 6-4 3-6 6-4. Diez, who lives and trains in Barcelona was also junior champion in 2009, but the only strange thing is that he competes under the flag of Canada! He was born in Toronto back in 1991, but represented Spain in his early career, and he was allowed to compete here because of his multiple citizenship in both countries.

Jaume Munar, Spain's most promising young star, failed to become the first player since Manuel Orantes in 1967 to win both junior and professional Spanish championships title in same year. Steven Diez won 15 Futures titles in career, mostly on clay and more than the half in Spain, but he struggled in the last two seasons.

In 2014 and 2015 he only won 4 Challenger matches and he even fell out of Top 800 last August. This title will probably give him boost to start 2016 in best possible way, maybe with a success on higher level than Futures. ALSO READ: Roger Federer: ´My schedule?
