24-year old Karolina Pliskova announced that she won't be playing the Rio Olympic Games because of the fears surrounding the Zika virus that has already forced Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Simona Halep to withdraw from it.
'I share the concerns about the possible effects of catching the Zika virus,' she said to a Czech news agency. Pliskova's withdrawal will hurt Czech Republic's chances doubly since Radek Stepanek, who's playing the Olympics has been conveniently left without a partner in both men's and mixed doubles.
In the men's singles draw Dan Evans replaced Berdych. Meanwhile, several doubles players criticized the withdrawals that have come about because of fears related to the Zika virus including Horia Tecau, Nicolas Mahut and Bruno Soares.

Horia Tecau: é mais provável me sequestrarem ou me assaltarem do que eu pegar esse vírus. — Aliny Calejon (@alcalejon) 17 luglio 2016
"J'ai l'impression que c'est parfois une excuse pour certains athlètes." De @nmahut, sur Zika.
Bruno Soares commented, 'At least Thiem was honest to say he would have not played Olympics to play Los Cabos, but others created Zika as excuse not to play.
