World No. 233's father dies during his daughter's match

Dramatic moments unfolded in the $10,000 ITF Event in Santiago, Chile, on Saturday afternoon. The father of the world no. 233 Daniela Seguel died while his daughter was playing the final of the tournament against the Brazilian player Paula Gonçalves.

Jorge Seguel was sitting on the grounds when suddenly he fainted. The second set of the match was played at that moment and Seguel was leading 6-4, 2-1. The match was suspended for a few minutes, Jorge was taken to the hospital where he died a few minutes after.

The organizers of the tourmament could no do anything but inform Seguel, who retired in tears while at 6-4, 4-4. She was consoled by her opponent who hugged her. It was an image of sportsmanship on a terrible day for the sport.
