In the last decades Spain had a ton of tennis talents, from Manolo Santana to Juan Carlos Ferrero, and since 2005 Rafael Nadal. It obviously created much interest in the country, and a study carried out by the firm Kantar TNS for La Liga proves it.
Tennis is the second most watched sport on Spanish Television channels. Football is first with 69% of the whole population, tennis is second with 8%, tied with Formula 1, then Basketball (6%) and MotoGP (5%). In average, three out of four football fans would unsubscribe from pay TVS if it did not show regular championship matches.
Obviously, Real Madrid and Barcelona teams attract everyone. Castilla y León is the place where there is the most amount of subscription sports viewing, while in The Canaries there is the least. In Spain two ATP events are played, both on clay: Madrid, which hosts also WTA event, and Barcelona.
