ATP Hamburg - Nicolas Almagro yet to drop a set

Over in Hamburg Juan Monaco was the first to book a Semi-Final spot following his 6-3 7-5 victory against Jeremy Chardy. He (Monaco) has been impressive en route to the Semi-Final. He has regained his form on Tour since his return after the injury he incurred in Monte Carlo earlier in the year.

Fabio Fognini and opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber had one thing in common ahead of their third round clash. Both have never made it beyond the second round of this event; however Kohlschreiber took to court his 32 to 15 win/loss record of the year so far to boost his confidence over Fognini’s fair 14 to 14.

Kohlschreiber won the match 7-5 6-2 but fell to the tournament’s Top seed Nicolas Almagro 7-5 7-5 - in a Quarter-Final match which saw him fail to serve out the second set at 5-4 to force a deciding set while the momentum had temporarily swung in his favour.

Nicolas Almagro defeated decent clay court player Russian Nikolay Davydenko (who won the title in 2009) 6-4 6-3 in the previous round. Other Quarter-Final results include former Top 10 player Marin Cilic’s 6-4 7-6, Tommy Haas’s 6-1 6-4 over 24 year-old Albert Ramos and Florian Mayer respectively.
