Massive increase for Roland Garros prize money in 2018

The Roland Garros organizers held a press conference on Tuesday in Paris to speak about the upcoming edition that will take place from 28 May to 10 June 2018. There is a new thing straightaway: the main draw won´t take place on Friday morning anymore, but on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. Australian Open did the same thing earlier this year.

The tournament director Guy Forget also said that spectators will be able to enjoy the new facilities like the Courts 7, 9 and 18 near the Auteuil Gardens, as part of the new development project that will be finished in 2021 with a new roof built on Philippe Chatrier. ´This year´s event is set to be passionable and more open than ever especially with some players. Will (Rafael) Nadal win his 11th title? Will Serena Williams make a winning return?´

Total prize money will be €39.197.000 worth, and a €2.2 million cheque (equivalent to $2.7 million) will be awarded to men´s and women´s singles draw winners.
