It was a mixed start of the week for Julia Goerges. The German won the "Turkish Airlines Tie-break" exhibition in Stuttgart on Monday in a six-player draw. Matches were played in-a-best of a ten-point tie-break set, using the successful Tie Break Tens format.
Goerges beat Caroline Garcia 10-8, Laura Siegemund 10-2 and Angelique Kerber 10-8 in the final to win the title. The event was played on the Porsche Arena, ahead of the official start of the WTA tournament. Goerges won a 1,000,000-mile bonus from Turkish Airlines, the winning prize.
Besides the four players already mentioned, Coco Vandeweghe and Kristina Mladenovic also played the event. 'We are working hard to make it the most innovative tournament of the WTA Tour,' the tournament director Markus Günthardt said.
'With this new tie-break event, we offer our crowd an absolutely new thing.' However, Goerges was upset in the first round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Wednesday by Czech player Marketa Vondrousova. ALSO READ: Acapulco or Dubai: Roger Federer reveals it all
