Donna Vekic tries to get inspired by her boyfriend Stan Wawrinka. The Croatian player is having some great results on grass, as she reached the Wimbledon third round and will face the German Julia Goerges on Saturday.
Speaking about Wawrinka, Vekic said: 'He motivates me a lot. And his win against (Grigor) Dimitrov also gave me a boost. He brings much energy, especially now, coming back after his knee injury. I hope to stay there for as long as possible.' Commenting on her win over the American Sloane Stephens in the opening round, Vekic added: 'I played the opening match on Court 1 against Venus (Williams) two years ago, so I didn’t have great memories from that.
But playing at Wimbledon is special, you get to play on Court 1 or Centre Court it’s even more special and I’m really happy I managed to get some good memories out of it.' Vekic also spoke about football World Cup.
After Croatia's thrilling win over Denmark, she struggled to sleep. 'Oh my God, that was crazy, I tell you I couldn’t sleep after that, I was like sh**! That was a close one. If they win the whole thing? I think, like me, we should take it one match a time.
I’m hoping for a Croatia-Switzerland semi-final,' she said, referring to the fact that Wawrinka is Swiss. ALSO READ: Steffi Graf: 'Agassi thinks Rafael Nadal is the GOAT, not Roger Federer'
