Jennifer Capriati Named as WTA Finals Legend Ambassador

Tennis - Former World No. 1 Jennifer Capriati has been named as one of the Legend Ambassadors for the fifth and final edition of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore event - the season-ending championship of the WTA Tour. Capriati will be joined by former greats such as Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Iva Majoli, Alicia Molik, Mary Pierce, Monica Seles,Yayuk Basuki and Tamarine Tanasugarn., according to a report by WTA site.

Capriati won three Grand Slams in her remarkable career - the Australian Open in 2001 and 2002 and the French Open in 2002. The 42-year-old has also been inducted into the Internal Tennis Hall of Fame and reached the semi-finals of the season-ending event in 2002 and 2003.

In a statement released, Capriati commented, "The WTA Finals is such a prestigious event and it is a significant milestone in any player’s career to qualify for it, so I am truly honored to be a part of the last edition in Singapore.

I will be revisiting Singapore from early in my career and I remember it to be a beautiful city, so I’m very excited to return once again in October.” This is the fifth and final edition of the season-ending event in Singapore and the event will move to Shenzhen from 2019 to 2028.

Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber have already qualified for the singles event and six spots remain up for grabs. In the doubles field, Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova, and Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic have also qualified for the event.
