Top-10 players Marin Cilic and Kevin Andseron have joined Juan Martin del Potro with the two set to play the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne. Cilic confirmed his participation after lifting the Davis Cup title with Croatia. "It's great to have Marin back at Kooyong," said tournament director Peter Johnston.
"Last year it served him well as a lead-up to the Australian Open when he reached the final before losing in five sets to Roger Federer. It was an incredible effort playing the lead role in Croatia's Davis Cup win on the weekend," he said.
"He has done pretty much everything in the sport being a former US Open winner and finalist at Wimbledon and Australian Open and a regular fixture in the top 10,” he further added. Both the players have had great seasons with both of them finishing the year in the Top-10.
Ending the year as No.7, Cilic won the Davis Cup and compiled an impressive 44-20 win-loss record this year. He also lifted one title in 2018. Kevin Anderson on the other hand a personal best season that saw him end the year at No.6 on the ATP Charts reached the finals of Wimbledon, losing the Novak Djokovic.
He ended the year with a 47-19 win-loss record with 2 titles to his name and over $5Mn in prize money. He also broke the record for being the highest ranked South African to end the year, breaking Wayne Ferreira's record, who ended the year at No.10 in 1996.
