Tennis - Japan's top-ranked Kei Nishikori is appearing alongside Yowamushi Pedal's Sakamichi Onoda in an advertisement for Morinaga & Company's in Bar Protein. The art has been drawn by Yowamushi Pedal creator Wataru Watanabe.
"Yowamushi Pedal is just one of the series participating in the ad campaign. The creators of Baki-Dou, Black Jack, Harigane Service ACE, and Super Radical Gag Family released original artwork of their characters and renditions of Nishikori enjoying an in Bar Protein snack."
Nishikori is one of the top superstars in Japan and among the highest earning athletes in the world. He has earlier appeared in several advertisements including those for Cup Noodle and the financial services company JACCS.
The Japanese player was beaten in the third round of the ongoing US Open by Australian Alex de Minaur in four sets. The 29-year-old Nishikori is currently ranked No. 7 in the world. He had reached the quarter-finals of all the three previous Grand Slam tournaments this year and had reached the semi-finals of the US Open last year.
He also reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year, making it five consecutive appearances in a Grand Slam quarter-final for the Japanese player. As a result of his earlier loss this year at the US Open, Nishikori is expected to go down in the rankings.
With the Olympics coming up in Tokyo next year, Nishikori is expected to be one of the top draws at the Tokyo Games along with Naomi Osaka, who has won two Grand Slams and reached the World No. 1 ranking.
