Tennis - Former Top 10 player Andrea Petkovic, of Germany, has received a notable mention for her story on "Tennis vs. Tennis" published in the Racquet Magazine in the anthology "Best American Sports Writing 2019"
The article is about Petkovic's trip with the American indie band Tennis during the off-season in 2017 and she said that she had found many parallels in their jobs and lives as a tennis professional and a rock band with both having to deal with the monotony of routine and then performing in front of large audiences.
Petkovic, who also writes for "Süddeutsche Zeitung" ("30-Love") and "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung", is currently working on her own biography and says that she has tried to pick some important episodes in her life and write about them as if it were fictional.
Petkovic has said she hopes to launch the book in late 2020. The German tennis player is currently ranked No. 82 in the world. In her most recent event, Petkovic came through the qualifying draw at the China Open by winning three matches before losing in the first round of the main draw to Japan's Naomi Osaka 2-6, 0-6.
Prior to the same, she lost in the first round of the qualifiers at the Wuhan Open and in the second round of the main draw at the Guangzhou Open. She also reached the third round of the US Open in New York where she defeated sixth seeded Petra Kvitova, of the Czech Republic, before going down to 25th seeded Elise Mertens, of Belgium, in the third round.
