Dominic Thiem and Kristina Mladenovic have reportedly split. The French player removed all Instagram photos featuring her and the world No. 4 together. She also did not attend last week's ATP Finals in London. On Monday night, Servus TV asked Thiem about the rumours.
"I cannot and I do not want to say anything about it," he said. But then he made clear that they are no longer a couple: "Everything is pretty fresh, we will see what happens." Thiem's father Wolfgang was not too willing to speak about it either: "I do not want to say anything, it's the last thing I want to speak about in an interview."
Wolfgang finally spoke about what could happen in 2020: "You have the Big Three but you should not forget about Dimitrov, Wawrinka. There is the next generation. There are so many players. Del Potro. It's very interesting.
I agree with Zverev when he said that in 2020 there will be a new Grand Slam winner." Asked what Dominic can improve on, Wolfgang concluded: "He needs to put more first serves in and go to the net more. He showed that he is not just a clay-court specialist and perhaps it's the best surface for him.
Indoors and outdoors he beat Djokovic, Federer. French Open is a big goal but the other tournaments too." Thiem re-attained his career-high of no. 4 in the world on Monday, 18th November after reaching the final of the ATP Finals in London last week.
He lost only two matches in the event, the final to Stefanos Tsitsipas, and a round-robin match, to Matteo Berrettini. He also defeated Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the round-robin stages of the tournament.
