Jamie and Andy Murray’s Mother - Judy Murray was recently given a lifetime achievement award by UK Coaching for her services to tennis. Judy said that it is a massive honour to receive the award. Murray has been coaching for 30 years, including a stint as Great Britain's Fed Cup captain.
In recent times, she invested money from her own pocket to launch the Miss-Hits tennis programme to teach girls worldwide to pick the sport. With the ceremony set to take place next month, Judy spoke about this amazing award, saying, "Having started as a volunteer at Dunblane Sports Club when my kids were toddlers, I've experienced every step of the coaching journey from local community club right up to Grand Slams, Olympics and Fed Cup, so I understand the importance of having great coaches at every stage and every level of the game."
She also believes that the creation of a new tennis centre in Inverurie will be important in developing the game for the whole of the north of Scotland. Judy says the new facility will be a "massive shot in the arm" for tennis and hoped that individuals will come forward to help improve tennis at grassroots level.
Though Judy is confident that the new centre can help increase Scotland's talent pool of players, she also said that the main purpose of the amenity is to provide a state-of-the-art premises in an area that has been starved of a dedicated facility. Like the Murray brothers, Judy is also pro-new Davis Cup format and is hoping that fans around the world embrace it.
