Juan Martin del Potro has not competed since June when he played at the Queen's Club retiring due to a knee injury. Just a few days after the surgery, the Tandil native had said his career might be finished, then his recovery process started well, he had committed to playing the Stockholm and Vienna Opens but he eventually withdrew as he said he was not fully healed yet.
He was also Roger Federer's opponent in the Buenos Aires exhibition in November but was forced to withdraw from it as well. Alexander Zverev ended up playing in his stead. So the question is, when will del Potro be back on Tour? It's not clear which his first tournament of the season will be as he has not committed to playing any tournament prior to the Australian Open.
We only know that del Potro plans to play the Delray Beach Open on hard courts in February, and maybe Acapulco as the Mexican organizers would like to have him back. Meanwhile, the 2009 US Open winner is enjoying some free time at Miami Beach with his nice girlfriend Sofia Gimenez, as spotted by TMZ.
Del Potro dated several women over the last years, at some point he was single but he is now back feeling the love. In an interview to Tyc Sports some weeks ago in Buenos Aires attending the exhibition match between Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev, del Potro had said he would like to play for still a long time.
