Tennis - Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko has announced that she will be working with a new coach with sights set on the upcoming season. Tsurenko has been training for the new season at the International Tennis Academy and will be coached by Estonia's Siljaer Karjus.
Karjus has earlier worked with Estonia's top player Kaia Kanepi. Tsurenko and Karius have agreed to work on a trial period, based on which they will decide if the co-operation will be extended further for a full-time co-operation.
The 30-year-old Tsurenko was earlier being coached by Dmytro Brichek. She is currently ranked No. 72 in the world and has won 4 WTA titles in her career so far - Acapulco in 2017 and 2018 along with Guangzhou in 2016 and Istanbul in 2015.
This year, she reached the final of the WTA event in Brisbane. losing to Karolina Pliskova in three sets. She peaked at No. 23 in the rankings in February but has slipped since then due to injuries. Her last tournament on the tour in 2019 was the Citi Open in Washington in July.
She has struggled with an elbow injury since then. She has worked hard on her comeback as seen on her Twitter account.
