German tennis star Andrea Petkovic says she will return to the Bundesliga next season to play for Dresden. The former Top 10 player, who is currently ranked No. 78 in the world, played for TC Blau-Weiß Blasewitz earlier this year and the team finished in fourth position.
Team Manager Sven Grosse commented, “We said from the beginning that we would like to keep Andrea and we are happy that she accepted our offer. She has announced that she will only play selected tournaments. We can, therefore, count ourselves lucky that the Bundesliga and our club are still on their wish list."
Earlier this year, Petkovic had spoken about returning to compete in the Bundesliga. "The Bundesliga was the starting signal for me many years ago in Benrath. There I got the confidence for the tour after I saw that I can beat players from the top 100.
So for me, the circle is closing now and I would like to give the Bundesliga back what it gave me." Petkovic also made her debut on German television in the last month as a television presenter on ZDF. She has spoken about looking at other avenues while her tennis career seems to be winding down and has been looking at writing and television as possible avenues once she finally bids goodbye to the tennis world.
The German turned professional in 2006 and reached her career-high singles ranking of No. 9 in October 2011, after reaching the quarterfinals of three Grand Slams events that year.
