Mubadala Tennis World Championships: How much does a winner get?

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship 2019 will be battling for a winner takes all $250,000 prize this weekend. The tournament is headlined by the Top-2 players on the ATP Charts – Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who are both looking to win a record setting 5th title in Abu Dhabi.

The challenge for the Top-2 is spearheaded by reigning ATP World Tour Final Champion – Stefanos Tsitsipas along side Russians Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev with former Australian Open semi-finalist – Hyeon Chung also in the loop.

As the top two seeds, Nadal and Djokovic have received byes to Friday's semi-finals. Djokovic awaits the winner of the Tsitsipas v Rublev quarter-final, while Nadal will play either Khachanov or Chung. The women’s match, on Thursday, will be contested by former world No 1 Maria Sharapova and Australian No 2 Ajla Tomljanovic.

While only the tournament champion will receive prize money, each player would have negotiated their own undisclosed appearance fees. Nadal recently spoke about the event, saying, “It is a great way to start the season and getting ready this year for the ATP Cup.

In previous years, it was my entrance to the new season, continuing to other events as well and I always felt this tournament was getting better every year; I am sure this year will be no exception to that”. Tsitsipas too had something to say about the event, saying, "What I need to do is go the extra mile and surpass them and that’s going to be the biggest challenge for next year, I need to surpass one of them in order for me to finish in the top-three next year."
