Israel's Julia Glushko Announces Retirement from Professional Tennis

Israel's Julia Glushko has announced that she would be retiring from professional tennis. The 29-year-old from Israel peaked at No. 79 in the singles rankings in June 2014 and is currently ranked No. 415 in the world rankings.

Among her career highlights were reaching the final of the WTA 125K series event in Dalian, where she lost to Zheng Saisai. In her post on Instagram, Glushko says, "After a lot of thoughts, long months of contemplation, I’ve decided to retire from professional tennis.

I wanted to take this opportunity and thank a few people who have been there for me throughout my career. My team in the last 2 years @amirhadad1978 @kerenshlomo @ilanit_tau @avihaisorokal and Oren Bar Nur (who still doesn’t have insta) @kerenshlomo my noodle, we have been through so much In the last 2 years.

Wow! You literally have seen me in every possible scenario!! Thank you so much for being there for me, you taught me what real friendship is, together with very high level of professionalism! Glushko won 11 singles titles on the ITF circuit during her playing career, three of those coming in 2018.

She also won 14 doubles titles on the ITF circuit. She is currently ranked No. 839 in doubles, and peaked at No. 109 in November 2013. Her best performances at the Grand Slams was reaching the third round of the US Open in 2013 and the French Open in 2014 in singles.

She also played a key role for Israel in the Fed Cup - with a 29-29 win loss record in the competition.

Always did everything you could just so I could chase my dreams and do what I love! You always showered me with so much love, acceptance and support. Without you, my career wouldn’t be possible. I am extremely excited about my decision and can’t wait to see what life brings after tennis :)
