With the new tennis season just a few days away, tennis stars have already started landing in Australia as they get ready to prepare for the first tournaments of the 2020 season. France's Gael Monfils and Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, one of tennis' golden couples, have also landed in Brisbane and have been welcomed by the Brisbane Tennis via their social media account.
Monfils is in Brisbane for the first edition of the ATP Cup where he will represent France. France has been drawn with Serbia, South Africa and Chile in Group A of the competition which will be played in Brisbane. The tournament will feature six groups of four teams each with the top placed team from each pool along with the top two runners-up who will advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Svitolina will play the WTA Brisbane International event which starts on January 6th. The Ukrainian is ranked no. 6 in the world and will be one of the headliners in the WTA tournament in Brisbane. She is one of the six Top 10 players entered in the tournament along with World no.
1 Ash Barty, World No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, reigning Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens. 33 year old Monfils is currently ranked No. 10 in the world and has won 1 ATP title in 2019.
