The captain of the American Davis Cup team, Mardy Fish, has added his vocie to the view that the points distribution at the ATP Cup does not seem fair. Fish, a former Top 10 player himself and winner of a silver medal in the Olympics, posted his views on his Twitter account - saying, "So winning the ATP Cup awards more points than a category 500 tournament and, in addition, you have an extra event to score.
Not forgetting that only two players can play." Several players, especially the third ranked players in the qualifying countries, such as Andrey Rublev and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, have also criticised the competition earlier on similar views.
Many players, including Spain's Pablo Andujar, Australia's John Millman and Canada's Vasek Pospisil also provided their views on FIsh's tweet.
So ATP Cup is worth more than winning a 500 event AND counts for an extra tournament on your ranking AND only 2 players from a country can play??? 🤔 🧐 — Mardy Fish (@MardyFish) January 12, 2020
A JOKE — Pablo Andujar (@AndujarPablo) January 12, 2020
Looked like a great event but for the first time over the course of my career can say the ranking system is no longer fair.

It was a great event to be a part of. Playing for the country, the atmosphere, production were all exceptional.
Still the extra countable tournament is wrong, as is the amount of total points (not just winner), up there with the likes of IW. — John Millman (@johnhmillman) January 13, 2020
