Former Top 10 player Andrea Petkovic, of Germany, has undergone surgery on her left knee on Friday, the 32 year old posted on her Instagram account. The German says she expects to be out of action for a period of 2 months. Petkovic has been having knee trouble for some time now and decided to skip the Australian Open in January as she did not feel fit enough for the event.
She underwent the procedure on the injured left knee in Augsburg. Petkovic spoke in a video message that the procedure has been successful and that she will be out of action for six to eight weeks. Petkovic last played in Luxembourg in October 2019.
She will also likely miss the Fed Cup finals in mid-April in Budapest if Germany qualify for the same. Germany are taking on Brazil this weekend in the qualifying tie for the Fed Cup finals. Petkovic has peaked at No. 9 in the world rankings in October 2011 after reaching the quarterfinals of three Grand Slam events that year.
She has won six WTA titles, nine ITF singles titles and three ITF doubles titles in her career. She won the season-ending tennis tournament WTA Tournament of Champions in 2014 and was also the German national champion in 2007 and 2009.
