Italy's Fabio Fognini says that it would be very annoying if he had to miss the Masters Series events in Indian Wells & Miami due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Fognini is playing the Davis Cup in Italy this week and since Italy is one of the worst-hit nations of the coronavrius epidemic, Italians are on the high-risk list which means it may be difficult for them to get visas to travel to the United States.
Italians Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner are already in the United States and will be able to play the two events. The 11th ranked Fognini commented, “Indian Wells and Miami are at high risk. It would be very annoying to have to give up since I missed many matches because of the injury and I risk getting to the season on clay having played almost nothing.
Berrettini and Sinner have already been there for a while, but things have changed and now for us Italians. It is very difficult to get to the USA. I spoke to Andrea Gaudenzi to understand how to resolve the situation, but it would be a real problem to skip the two American Masters 1000s”.
Fognini has already missed some events this season due to injuries and last competed on the tour at the Dubai Open. Last year, he lost in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open and the second round of the Miami Open which would have given him a good opportunity to gain some points. We will have to wait and see what the final outcome for Fognini would be in the next couple of days.
