Italy's Davis Cup Captain: The decision to stop everything was logical and sensible

Former Italian tennis player and Davis Cup captain Corrado Barazzutti says he is in agreement with the decision that the tennis circuit has been suspended for 6 weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Barazzutti says, “The decision to stop everything was logical and sensible , basically there are no other alternatives to try to slow down the infection.

My hope is that this virus can be eradicated as soon as possible . Our government did very well to close everything. We must absolutely prevent there being an uncontrolled flow in hospitals waiting for a vaccine to be found .

I am locked in the house as I hope everyone is doing. " Barazzutti remains hopeful that the tennis circuit can resume in Madrid and that there would not be any further delays and asks everyone to ensure that they follow the rules.

“No one can say for sure when everything will be over today. I want to make an appeal : the greater our ability to respect the rules, the less time it will take to recover our lives, our habits and our wonderful sport " Barazzutti won the French Open Boys' Singles in 1971, and he turned professional in the same year.

His career-high singles ranking was World No. 7, achieved in August 1978. In Grand Slam tournaments, his best results are the semifinals in 1977 at the US Open and in 1978 at the French Open and he won five career ATP tournaments.

Barazzutti is currently non-playing captain of the Italy Davis Cup team and the Italy Fed Cup team. Since he has been captain, the Italian Fed Cup team have won four times: 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2013.
