Former top 40 player Rebecca Marino has decided to stop communicating with her fans on social media sites Facebook and Twitter after receiving a barrage of criticism following her struggles on the court. Marino, now ranked outside the top 400 after taking a seven month break from the sport last year, wrote on her Facebook page - “Thank you to all of my fans for their support.

The Canadian spoke to the New York Times last week and said cyber bullying was one of the reasons she stepped away from the sport last year.
