Former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka, of Japan, was recently asked in an interview on the Tennis Channel about who her favourite doubles partners would be. The 22 year old Osaka said former World No. 1 and eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi would be her favourite doubles partner while Li Na, the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam singles title, would be her choice amongst the women.
Osaka says, "Li Na just for fun because I know she is going to be super nice and I will often say sorry and she will be cool about it." 22 year old Osaka is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles.
She has won five titles on the WTA Tour, including two titles at both the Grand Slam and Premier Mandatory levels. Osaka won her first two Grand Slam singles titles in back-to-back Grand Slam tournaments at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open, and is the first player to achieve this since American Jennifer Capriati in 2001.
Osaka has lived and trained in the United States since she was three years old. She made her breakthrough in 2018, when she won her first WTA title at the Indian Wells Open. Osaka is known for her multi-ethnic background and her shy, candid personality. She has become one of the most marketable female athletes in the world after her Grand Slam success.
