Even in Italy, one of the countries most affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic, players will finally come back to the court: Fabio Fognini, Jannik Sinner and many others will play in Todi, in Umbria (one the Italian county and home of the Todi ATP Challenger - ed.), the renewed Italian Championships.
It is a tournament with the best Italian players, who will compete for the absolute title of Italian champion. The stop of tennis caused by the health emergency totally upset the plans of the ATP, WTA and ITF boards and those of all tennis fans across the world.
It has not been played for several months and the stop of tennis, especially considering that they have to travel to different countries, it could be extended beyond 13 July 2020. To bring some tennis back to the country, in Italy, as already happened in Spain and Sweden, they return to the past.
From next June 15 a new event will come back to see the light of the sun: the Italian Championships, which are reborn after 16 years of oblivion. The Italian Federation created a Tour with at least 5 national tournaments where the best Italian tennis players, men and women, will compete.
It is an event that will bring tennis back into vogue also on the Italian national scene and which will have its beginning on the clay-courts of the Todi Tennis Club, which will host the first stage of the MEF Tennis Tour.
This event was organized at the request of the technical sector of the FIT and it will see the recovery of the best Italian players. Obviously everything will then depend on the Italian government and their authorizations to be able to play sporting events again during the season.
From Fabio Fognini to Jannik Sinner and with many other tennis players, a light begins to glimpse at the bottom of the tunnel.
