Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone launches new business

Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone has launched her new business - a food store. Prior to the lockdown, the retired Italian tennis player was all set to open her new bistro - 'Sifa', a bistro on the Milanese Navigli which was scheduled to open on March 8.

Schiavone has now revised the plans and created a small shop as she explained to Vivi Milano: " We were ready, happy, when we learned of the blockade we didn't want to believe it, so in the bistrot room we created a shop .

With the help of my father I cut the wood, drilled and mounted the shelves. For now we sell our delicious products ". "I have always enjoyed eating well and doing it with a healthy and particular dish, whether it's the Brunate salami and organic pecorino to homemade bread and biscuits, from gluten-free products to exquisite juices, from Naples mozzarella, when they arrive, to quality oil.

What must not be missing is good wine, from Franciacorta to Tenuta Sette Ponti, Sicilian, Apulian wines, Venetians, a nice variety." Schiavone says she is currently learning from a chef. "My mom is very good, I am a gourmet, but there is a chef who is teaching me, carbonara is good for me.

For now we bring a smile to our customers, even with the delivery. I have made a couple of deliveries - I went to deliver, twice to friends and two more to strangers who had ordered online: it was nice, they recognized me and thanked me." Schiavone won the 2010 French Open singles title, becoming the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam event in singles.

She was also runner-up at the 2011 French Open. She peaked at No. 4 in the world rankings and had overcome a battle with cancer last year.
