The Tennis Channel has picked the rivalry between Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert as the greatest rivalry in tennis, beating the Roger Federer - Rafael Nadal rivalry to second place. Navratilova and Evert won 18 Grand Slam singles titles each and played an incredible 80 times against one another on the tour in what was the first and perhaps biggest rivalry in women's tennis.
Navratilova led the overall series - 43 wins to 37 and the pair continue to remain good friends today, years after their retirement. The Fedal rivalry came in at No. 2 on the list, with the two having played 40 times - half of the number of times that Navratilova and Evert played.
Nadal leads their head to head 24-16. The Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe rivalry came in at No. 3, followed by Monica Seles vs. Steffi Graf at No. 4, and Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi at No. 5. The Williams sisters rivalry - Serena vs.
Venus, came in at No. 6 - one of only three active rivalries in the Top 10 list. Serena leads the head-to-head by an 18-12 margin. The other active rivalry on the list was Rafael Nadal vs. Novak Djokovic - who have played 55 times and the Serb leading their series 29-26.
One of the notable omissions from the list was the rivalry between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, where Djokovic leads their series 27-23. Here is the complete list of Top 10 rivalries as per Tennis Channel's panel of experts:
